Bushmen and Boreholes

Off to Botswana on Saturday to photograph the San Bushmen in the Central Kalahari. A lifelong ambition realised for me, after reading Laurens Van Der Posts books when I was about 14, I've always dreamed of going to meet the bushmen. Can't wait. I'll be joining the charity Vox United who are responsible for drilling a borehole for the bushmen, they'll be fitting a pump and desalination unit so the bushmen will have access to water in the area for the first time. I will post some of the photographs here when I have some.

My latest work involves making portraits of people in traffic jams.

Whitby Goth Festival in North Yorkshire is held twice a year, once in April and once in October, goths and steam punks come from all over the country and abroad.

Whitby Goth Festival Photoshoot.

Photographed at Whitby Goth Festival over the halloween weekend. We were shooting at night outside in the dark most of the time. I took an assistant with me who's main job was to shine a torch on my "victims" so I could focus the camera. I had a Bowens flash with a soft box set up and shot everything with the aperture stopped well down so none of the background would register, enabling me to get a portrait against a clean black backdrop.

I couldn't go wrong with the wealth of subject matter, and shot well in to the early hours on both Saturday and Sunday. I like to say a big thanks to everyone who let me take their portrait. Here are some of the results.

The latest from a wonderful wedding at Son Morraig in Deia, Mallorca. The bride was the sister of top fashion photographer Mathew Brookes, so I was probably lucky to be there, he must have wanted a day off. Son Morraig was the stunning setting for the blessing, the bride wore a Victoria Beckham dress and all at sun set too, I couldn't really go wrong. The groom was no slouch either!

Alex Higgins dies.

Here are a few photos I've taken in the past few years of Alex Higgins who was found dead on Saturday night. They say you should never meet your heros and certainly from my point of view this is a case in point. No doubt he was one of the greatest snooker players ever though.

I shot this a few months back but seems quite relevant now with the Imodesty Blaize film released recently and the upcoming film Burlesque starring Christina Aguilera and Cher. There seems to be a big burlesque revival at the moment.
